Pramono Stresses PMI Fund Month Contributions Should Be Voluntary

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stressed that fundraising for the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Fund Month is voluntary, with no coercion or predetermined contribution amounts.

Neither officials nor PMI itself should determine how much people are expected to contribute

He said he had spoken with the head of the Jakarta PMI and asked the organization to immediately issue regulations on the matter.

"I have actually made a video campaign for PMI Fund Month. PMI Fund Month is entirely voluntary. Neither officials nor PMI itself should determine how much people are expected to contribute," Pramono said at Ayana MidPlaza, Jakarta, on Thursday (10/8).

Reports of specific PMI contribution amounts being requested from various institutions and the public have circulated on social media. Pramono said setting specific contribution amounts would instead place a burden on the public.

"I have asked that this not be allowed. As I said yesterday, contributions must be entirely voluntary. People should give from the heart, because that is the very spirit of PMI," he asserted.
